The song I chose is "Riding with Private Malone" by David Ball. This song is important to me, although it is not by my favorite artist, because it reminds me how lucky I am to have my grandpa in my life. The lyrics that hit closest to home read "He said,"My name is Private Andrew Malone"
"If you're reading this, then I didn't make it home." These lyrics are important because when my grandpa was in the NAVY his ship was blown up by a torpedo. I am very thankful that he did not die because I would not be here if it were not for him. Not only that but my "Papa Larry" is my role model. He is the greatest man in my life. When I grow up if I become half the man he is today I will feel good about myself. He is getting old now but I cherish every moment I have with him. Every time I hear this song I think of him and all the times he has been there for me. Thank God he came home, unlike Private Malone...

Wow, that's a cool story. Unfortunately, I never really grew up with grandparents but that relationship you have is something I can relate to with some of my relatives. Fighting for your country is a pretty scary thing, your grandfather is brave and I can see why you like that song so much.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandpa got injured during combat too and I was so thankful that he wasn't seriously hurt or there'd be no me here either. :/ That's really great that you're so close to your grandpa though and also that you respect him. I'm glad that you have a song that reminds you of him.
